I picked up this book because of its subject matter - domestic abuse. As a survivor, I have never read a first-person account book, fiction or non-fiction. It's graphic with vivid details that an abused woman or a survivor of domestic violence will recognize all too well. There's no sugar-coating here. The author is brave enough to put it all out there for her readers and I'm thankful that I bought it.
Yes, it took me right back to some unbearable days, some terrifying moments,some horrifying acts of violence - BUT it sure opened my eyes. How lucky I am to have survived. My heart bleeds again, renewed, for those who didn't and aches again for those who still long to be set free, who don't see a way out, who can't find the strength or the means to flee and forever rid herself of the horror. Yes, Terri Marie has opened my eyes. Wonderful story. I hope it inspires other readers as much as it did me. Maybe all of us can do our own part to help end domestic abuse - volunteer, lobby,use our voices, talents, whatever we can give. Every abused woman should read it. Every peer counselor, every women's shelter employee, every recovering abuser. Excellent.
WOW!!! This book had me laughing, crying, wanting me to scream, and cheer out loud. This story is about 3 women overcame many obstacles to become strong independent women. Connie and Suzy are best friends in loveless relationships with their husbands. About to give up, they go to a self help seminar to help them become stronger women. There they meet Karen, who attends for courage and strength to help get out of an abusive relationship. These women form a bond that cannot be broken, as they help each other deal with everything that life throws at them. I love this book and encourage anyone going through domestic violence, no matter what form, reads this book!!!
I highly recommend this book to anyone healing from any type of abuse or neglect. It was well written and while I cried through a lot of it, I also felt myself go through my own healing journey. Admittedly, I am jealous of the friendships that these women have. However, it has helped me realize that I need to reach out to others that might understand my own internal struggles. My favorite quote "It doesn't matter how we got here. Broken is broken."
When Connie and Suzy accept the reality of what their lives have become, nothing will ever be the same. They set out on a journey of self discovery and empowerment as they venture to reclaim their lives. Never again will the drabness that engulfed their lives be allowed to define them.
With this book Terri Marie pulls you into the lives of three amazingly strong women as the venture out into a world of the unknown, into a search for independence and happiness. This book gives voice to so much unspoken pain and heartache that so many women carry everyday, women who are accepting that their lives will never change. This book delves deep, it's not an easy read, but it's a book you will never forget!
Grab a box of tissues, a glass of wine and settle down to read one of the most stirringly beautiful books of our time. Refuse to accept the beige that surrounds us and embrace the color inside you, you'll never be the same again!
Terri Marie is one of my most favorite authors. As I have read many of her books, this book was not what I was expecting. I never read the previews of books. I either love the Author or like the cover and/or name of the book. I know not always a great way to choose books but I have been pretty lucky so far.
When I started this book, it WAS NOT what I was expecting. This book was so well written and hit a place close to my heart. I dont know how she managed the courage to do this book. Yet I am sure many people (even if only 1 person) is helped by reading it .. it was worth it.
I had the honor to actually speak on the phone with Author Terri Marie and I had to question her about this book.
Make sure you have tissues. So many emotions run through you.

I think all moms tend to lose sight of who we are when we become mothers. We put everyone before us, eventually it becomes who we are. We are mothers, wives, daughters , sisters. We lose our identity by hiding behind our labels. I love the fact that the women in this book took the time to reflect, change, and renew their lives. It gives the rest of us hiding behind our labels a bit of hope! And for the women who read this that are in an abusive relationship take the courage from the words in this book and get help. Be strong, courageous, loving and kind and never ever lose who you are! <3
I wasn't going to read this story, but the brief description caught my attention. Boy oh boy am I glad I took a chance on this wonderful depiction of how these women struggled, and fought to reclaim who they were before they lost themselves in marriage. It was a powerful story of love and unity against control and fear. This is a must read book for men and women a like. Okay guys may not like it as much as women, but I bet they will enjoy the action, suspense, and violence. They just have to get over the love, liberation, and empowerment parts! Get this book! You won't be sorry!
